Signing off the day

What a day requires, how a manager signs it off, what to do about missed work, and when a day needs signing off again.

Signing off a day is a manager saying: I have looked at this day’s sales, hours and floor work, and it is finished. Mezbano keeps what was signed off, and tells you if the day changes afterwards.

When a day ends

A store’s day does not end at midnight. It ends at 04:00 the next morning, store time, so the closing crew can finish that night’s checklists after midnight. A day can be signed off only once it has ended.

What a day requires

  • Checklists and temperature checks. A daily one is required every day on the day shift. A schedule (under Team & settings, Checklist schedules and Temperature check schedules) can require it on other shifts, with a time it is due. A weekly, monthly or yearly one is required only where a store schedules it; “as needed” is never required. The How often field on each checklist and temperature check says the same.
  • Sales, if the store records sales. A day the store sold nothing still needs a sales record of zero.
  • No unfinished work: started checklists, temperature checks and prep batches are finished, every temperature out of range has what was done about it, and no serious incident is still open.

Within an hour after a day ends, Mezbano records what it required and keeps it. From then on, changing a checklist, switching one back on, or changing a schedule does not change what that day required.

Signing off

Open Day sign-off for that day. It lists what is still open, each with the place to fix it. When nothing blocks the day, a store owner or admin writes a short note and signs it off.

Work that could not be done

Some things can’t be fixed after the day. A manager can close them out with the reason, and the day then shows them as noted instead of blocking it:

  • a checklist or temperature check that was started but not finished,
  • one that was required but nobody started,
  • a required photo whose saved file was lost. You can also add a new photo to the same answer instead.

A temperature out of range is never closed out: write down what was done about it first. A manager can do that on a past day too.

Changed after sign-off

A signed-off day shows Changed when what it came to changes: a new problem (for example a serious incident logged for that day), a checklist or temperature check that appears or ends differently, something closed out, or different sales or hours. Sign it off again once you have looked. A manager checking a finished checklist, notes on an incident, or a minor incident do not change a signed-off day.
